The Power of Safe Spaces and Shared Stories

Over the past week, I had the pleasure of spending time with teams from Fife Leisure Trust as we explored the topic of mentoring together.
Everyone showed up fully, took part in the learning activities, and generously shared their reflections. There was one moment in particular that will stay with me: a powerful, vulnerable story shared by a participant about the lasting impact of a mentor in her life. You could feel the emotion in the room—real, raw, and deeply human.
That moment reminded me of the value of openness. Just an hour earlier, many in the group hadn’t even met. Yet in the space we co-created, trust began to grow. People shared meaningfully, and together we built something that felt real—something that will help shape the future of this mentoring programme.
To everyone involved: thank you for your honesty, your courage, and your willingness to step into something new. I really enjoyed working with you.
Let’s keep building spaces where stories can be shared, heard and honoured. If you’re curious about creating more meaningful conversations on your own team or organisation - let’s talk.
