Who knew a 6AM start could turn into such an energising day? Last Saturday, I packed up (chai in hand, I don't do coffee) and headed to Aberdeen to team up with the amazing folks at the Aberdeen District Netball Association (ADNA). Turns out, struggling with right and left can be a great way to bond.
The team’s energy and camaraderie were contagious as we dove into an interactive workshop all about empowering local umpires within the district. It wasn’t about technicalities—it was about connection, growth, and creating a supportive community that fosters individual and collective development.
Here’s What We Covered:
We explored key aspects of mentoring, focusing on:
The role of the mentor
The power of connection—because mentoring is a two-way
Approaches to mentoring that make the experience meaningful for both parties.
Contracting to ensure boundaries and expectations are agreed
Practical tools and frameworks to make mentoring effective and adaptable.
The session was dynamic, and packed with real-life insights and future actions.
What the Team Said:
💬 “Gave us great tools to move forward with an initiative we’re keen to introduce to our association.”
💬 “The importance of getting to know the mentee before mentoring starts, having a contract, and setting boundaries.”
💬 “Course was fab - very interactive"
💬 “Frameworks we can adapt to suit our needs—so practical!”
💬 “Do it. It’s so valuable.”
Why This Matters
Mentoring is about more than just passing on knowledge—it’s about building relationships that inspire and empower. So much potential can be unlocked when people come together to share ideas, ask questions, and support one another.
If you’re thinking about enhancing your team’s mentoring practices (or just curious about how to get started), I’d love to hear from you. Let’s work together to bring out the best in your community.
So, what’s next for you? A mentoring session? A team workshop? A chai-fuelled brainstorming session at 6AM? Let’s make it happen!
